About Us

Student run since 1951, the Calumet is MCC’s student-run newspaper, connecting students and community with campus news.

The Calumet is open to all students of MCC, and is a publication for student expression where students make all content decisions.  Students interested in writing, reporting, investigating truth, photography, art, campus involvement, newspaper production, etc. are invited to join and bring their ideas.

In addition to being a campus activity, students can choose to earn up to six hours of college credit by working taking one, two or three credits of the course “Journalism Practicum.”

Working on the newspaper staff provides students with hands-on journalistic experience and an opportunity to practice important newsroom skills. For those interested in designing, the Calumet’s newsroom is equipped with Photoshop and In-Design.

To learn more, contact  Calumet Editor Sharon Adasme at Or attend a staff meeting on Tuesdays/Thursdays noon- 2 p.m. Article suggestions, named submissions, upcoming events, and paid advertisements are always welcome.
